With the weather (slowly) warming up, I bet a few of you are already thinking ahead to summer, and I can’t say I blame you.
Next month, I’ll share a list of events happening in and around Akron all summer, from food-centric festivals and concerts to neighborhood gatherings and long-running favorites. Have a summer event in your community that you’d like to share? Email me at brittany@signalakron.org with all the event details, and I may include it in my roundup.
Speaking of things to do, I’ve updated our list highlighting Akron bicentennial events happening throughout the year. Be sure to give it a read and visit akron200.org for even more bicentennial programming.
Your Akron weekend plans
Students from the University of Akron Dance Program will take the stage at E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall for two performances Friday and Saturday. Each semester, dance students perform original choreography created by UA faculty and guest artists. The University of Akron Dance Company Spring 2025 Concert will feature a collaboration with the New York-based Joffrey Concert Group. Both shows start at 7 p.m. General admission is $20, or $10 for students with an ID and for guests 17 years and younger.
Get ready to move at Cuyahoga Falls’ 69th Annual Egg Dash. Kids of all ages can hunt for eggs filled with candy and toys at this free event taking place at three locations around the city (Water Works Park, Keyser Park and Quirk Cultural Center). Participants should bring their own bags or baskets. Afterward, enjoy snacks, crafts and photo ops with the Easter Bunny. The Egg Dash begins at 11 a.m. at each location.
Learn ways to help the environment, and have fun doing it, at Hudson Earth Day on Saturday. Attendees can bring household items for recycling, including sensitive documents, electronics and crayons. There will also be an electric vehicle show, an electric demo from Hudson Public Power, a rain barrel workshop and activities for kids, plus food trucks and vendors. The free family-friendly event takes place on the Clocktower and Gazebo Greens.
