Get those costumes ready: It’s almost time for trick-or-treat. Akron residents who wish to participate should turn a porch light on so trick-or-treaters know where to stop.

Akron police officers will be on patrol throughout the evening on Saturday, Oct. 31, when the city holds its official trick-or-treat from 5 to 7 p.m., the mayor’s office said in a press release.

The City of Akron also shared some safety tips for those planning to trick-or-treat:

  • Children should be accompanied by a responsible adult or travel in groups.
  • Trick-or-treaters should use sidewalks whenever possible and cross streets at intersections or designated crosswalks.
  • Drivers should use extra caution and watch for children, particularly in residential neighborhoods.
  • Costumes should be visible to drivers; reflective tape, glow sticks or flashlights can help increase visibility after dark.
  • Families should only visit homes with porch or front lights turned on.
