What’s going to happen at the site of one of Akron’s oldest restaurants —Young’s Hotel and Restaurant? City officials and River Guardians Ohio invite residents to join them tomorrow to re-imagine the space. The building that housed a grocery and featured 100 hotel rooms was built in the 1850s. Fire destroyed it in 1907. The owners rebuilt it a year later, and it operated for nearly 100 more years before closing in 2004. The building was razed in 2010, and now it’s an empty corner lot.
But what neighborhood was home to Young’s Hotel and Restaurant? If you think you know, test your knowledge of Akron’s culinary history as well as of leaf collection and pumpkin picking in this week’s news quiz.
Before we get started, let’s give a shoutout to quiz takers Barbara T., Ceil C., Frederica C., Lori S., Nancy B. and Suzanne L. for scoring 100% on last week’s news quiz. Well done.
Ready. Set. Quiz.
