The second annual Akron Oatmeal Festival, tomorrow in Cascade Valley, got us thinking about Akron’s role in the history of this mushy breakfast favorite. You may know about the iconic silos marking downtown Akron’s skyline, but have you heard of the “Oatmeal King” who lived right here in the Rubber City?
Ferdinand Schumacher set up shop in Cascade Valley after he immigrated from Germany. His German Mills American Cereal Co. would give rise to the iconic silos and Quaker Oats, a household name in breakfast foods today.
In this week’s news quiz, test your knowledge of oatmeal in Akron, North America’s First People’s Day, housing ballot initiatives and how fast e-bikes are allowed to go
Before we get started, let’s give a shout out to quiz takers Barb E., Benjamin W., Brian B., Jeff S., John M., Lori S., Pennie F. and Sally E. for scoring 100% on last week’s news quiz. Well done.
Ready. Set. Quiz.
