As I put together this week’s story about the PorchRokr music festival, I was reminded of my previous life as a music reporter. It’s been quite a few years since I spent my days interviewing musicians, but music still plays a large role in my life. That is in terms of listening to it. No one wants to hear me sing.

With Akron’s thriving art scene, I have no doubt that the city also has a plethora of great musical acts — and I want to know who they are. Tell me your favorite local bands and singers by filling out this form. Who knows — maybe you’ll see them soon in Signal Akron.

Your weekend plans

Plans for this weekend, number 1

Four pirates face the consequences of their actions after a night of debauchery in W. Reid Kennedy’s new play, “What to do with a Drunken Sailor,” which premieres this weekend at the Rialto Theatre. Audiences have two opportunities to see the play, with productions Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. Tickets are $17 in advance or $20 at the door. Get there early for dinner and drinks in the Rialto Living Room.

This weekend in Akron number 2

Calling all self-proclaimed weirdos: Shop wares and goods from more than 125 vendors at Saturday’s Punk Rock Flea Market. Hosted by We Are The Weirdos Ohio, the market gives alternative artists the chance to sell their products to a larger audience. Original artwork, taxidermy, vegan treats, vintage clothing, handmade jewelry and comic books are some of the items that will be for sale. The free festival runs from noon to 6 p.m. and will take over Main Street in downtown Akron.

Head to Howe Meadow on Sunday for the final Rhythm on the River concert of the season. Erin Nicole’s Centric Soul will open the show with Motown and soul classics. Cleveland’s FORECAST will headline the show with its brand of contemporary jazz. The free, family-friendly concert will also feature food trucks and field games. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets, but please no alcoholic beverages. Gates open at 2 p.m., and the music begins at 4 p.m.
