After seven days off and a shortened work schedule last week, I’m finally feeling back in the swing of things. (Although my New Year’s resolution to be on time to things is still a work in progress.)
As I start planning stories for 2025, I’d love to hear from you. What do you want to see more of in our culture and arts coverage this year? Perhaps you know of a restaurant opening, an upcoming art exhibit or a local musician who’s preparing to release new music. Or maybe you have the in on a story that no one else is covering. Whatever it is, I want to hear about it. Fill out this form or respond to this email with your suggestions.

Start the weekend off with the Jonah Ferguson Quartet at BLU Jazz+ on Friday. The jazz guitarist/composer (and Cleveland native) will be joined onstage with saxophonist Ronell Regis, bassist Jordan McBride and drummer Zaire Darden. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20.

Enjoy a day of art Saturday and explore new exhibitions at three downtown art institutions. At Akron Soul Train, check out new exhibits from Earl O. James and Nico Cacho Flores. Summit Artspace’s winter show features works from Mark Jaroszewski, Robert Wright and Eric Tuck-Macalla, plus two group exhibits. And finally, head to the Akron Art Museum for its newest shows: “Oliver Jeffers: 15 Years of Picturing Books” and “William Richards: The Vastness Beyond Vision.” Check the individual websites for information on hours and admission.

Join Summit Metro Parks for a Winter Wildlife Walk on Sunday at Cascade Valley Metro Park. Attendees will hike the 1-mile Prather Trail and the 1.1-mile Missing Link Trail where they’ll have a chance to look for white-tailed deer, dark-eyed juncos, white-throated sparrows and more. This free event starts at 9 a.m. Guests should meet at the park’s Valley View area (1134 Cuyahoga St., Akron).
