The first Fugitive Safe Surrender event in more than a decade will take place Aug. 7 through Aug. 10 at The House of the Lord Church, 1650 Diagonal Road in Akron. The hours will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

Anyone who has a warrant out for their arrest can voluntarily surrender in exchange for possible favorable consideration in resolving their case.

Attorneys will be present to provide free representation for those who surrender and appear before a judge, which will occur on-site.

The program will not offer amnesty but is intended to offer “individuals with warrants the opportunity to resolve their case in a safe manner, according to a Facebook post from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.

3News, Signal Akron’s media partner, reported in June 2014 that 1,548 people turned themselves in during the last safe surrender event in Summit County, and a total of 3,669 warrants were cleared.

Fugitive Safe Surrender is a collaboration between more than 15 local agencies and government offices in Summit County, Akron, Barberton, and the state of Ohio, along with The House of the Lord providing the location. 

On-site community resources will be available to help people transition toward a fresh start, and the church will offer daycare for those with children.
