Last year, I moved to Akron in early December, so I basically missed fall. This year, I’m ready to dive right into a pile of crunchy, colorful leaves (metaphorically speaking) and experience as many of the region’s autumnal offerings as I can.

If you’re also looking for things to do this season, my Signal Cleveland colleague Najee Hall and I have you covered with a roundup of events and festivals happening in and around Akron and Cleveland — from now through November.

I’ve also compiled a list of trick-or-treat dates throughout Summit County. So grab that Halloween candy (I’m partial to Reese’s pumpkins myself) and get ready for spooky season.

Your Akron weekend plans

“Romeo and Juliet” gets an updated spin in “The Masque of Night,” a production from off-Broadway company New Place Players. Rubber City Theatre will stage seven performances of the show — including a special performance at Gervasi Vineyard in Canton on Oct. 3 — beginning Friday. Tickets are $10-$40. Friday’s show begins at 7:30 p.m. at Sandefur Theatre in Guzzetta Hall at the University of Akron (228 E. Buchtel Ave.).

This weekend in Akron number 2

Bring your current art project to Summit Artspace for Crafternoon on Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. This event gives artists of all skill levels and mediums a chance to make new friends and create in a relaxed, no-pressure environment. Can’t make it this weekend? Crafternoon happens every third Saturday, same time and place.

It will be a pugapalooza Sunday for the Akron Pug Fest. The event kicks off at 10:30 a.m. at Cascade Plaza with a half-kilometer (.3 miles) walk with your pug. (Other dogs are welcome too, as long as they are well-behaved.) The fun will continue afterward with a festival featuring vendors, food trucks and pet-friendly activities. And, of course, plenty of pugs. Registration for the walk is $20, and proceeds will go to Ohio Pug Rescue. The festival is free to attend.
