Although the season doesn’t officially start until June 20, it feels like summer (just disregard this week’s rainy period).

For several of us on the Signal Akron staff, it’s our first summer in the city, and I for one plan to to take full advantage of it. (Roller skating at Cascade Plaza! Concerts at Blossom! So many festivals!)

This week, I’m sharing a roundup of summer events happening in and around Akron. With more than 50 things to do, there should be something for everyone on the list.

No matter how you choose to spend your summer, I hope you enjoy the season.

Your weekend plans

View more than 60 dresses from decades of celebrations in the Summit Historical Society’s latest exhibit, A Century of Wedding Dresses. The exhibition is on display at the Perkins Stone Mansion, where each room displays a different decade of wedding dresses, accessories and gifts. The mansion is open for afternoon tours today through Saturday. Tickets are $5 to $15. Admission is free for society members, volunteers and children age 6 and younger.

This is the last weekend to shop the Stan Hywet plant sale. The sale runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today through Sunday and takes place in the courtyard near Molly’s Shop. Shoppers should arrive by 4 p.m. before the gates close for the day. The plant sale is free to attend, but those who also want to tour the stately mansion will need to pay admission.

Find out what lurks beneath the water when the Akron-Summit County Public Library screens “Creature from the Black Lagoon” Sunday at the downtown branch. The free screening of the 1954 film is a collaboration with Akron Horror Hounds. Showtime is at 3 p.m. in the auditorium.
