Your weekend plans

The Akron Children’s Museum is celebrating moms Friday night with For Moms By Moms!. Attendees will enjoy live music, appetizers, a bottomless bubbly bar, craft stations, vendors, raffles and a flower station where they can build a bouquet to take home. There’s even a serenity room for guests who need some peace and quiet (and perhaps a chair massage). Tickets are $50, and the event starts at 6:30 p.m.

Head to the Akron Art Museum Saturday to check out its new exhibit, “Michelangelo Lovelace: Art Saved My Life.” A Cleveland native, Lovelace’s work was greatly influenced by his own life, and his vibrant paintings depict everyday moments in his city, both joyful and grim. (Lovelace died in 2021 from pancreatic cancer.) The exhibit is on display through Sunday, Aug. 18. Museum hours and admission prices can be found here.

Can’t make it to Northwest Ohio for the 10-day festival Biggest Week in American Birding? Don’t worry: Summit Metro Parks has you covered. Head to Cascade Valley Metro Park for the Peak Migration Bird Walk Sunday morning. A naturalist will lead attendees on a hike to spot migratory birds on their journeys north. Guests should meet at the Valley View area of the park (1212 Cuyahoga St., Akron) at 7:30 a.m.
