Last Thursday, I got a sneak peek at Summit Artspace’s summer exhibitions, including “Persistence of Vision,” a retrospective of Cleveland artist Kasumi’s work from the late ’90s to the present. The exhibit highlights her video and film work, as well as collages, prints and paintings.

The other exhibitions on display are “Diagrams for Inner Space” by Steven Mastroianni and “Stitched Editions: Walking Through the Sacred Garden” by Melih Meric, plus works from the Women’s Art League of Akron and pieces in honor of Overdose Awareness Day.

Summit Artspace’s summer exhibitions are on display through Saturday, Sept. 14. The galleries are free and open to the public on Fridays from noon to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Your weekend plans

The Summit FM will host Artistry Through Adversity Friday at The HÜG Place at 133 Merriman Road. It’s the radio station’s first wellness event, and will feature a performance from local musician Angie Haze, as well as art showcases and refreshments. The event is free to attend. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the music begins at 7 p.m.

Celebrate Christmas in July on Saturday at Heritage Farms in Peninsula. Guests can browse the Peninsula Flea, where vendors sell an array of artisan, handmade and vintage goods. The event will also feature informational booths from Heritage Farms highlighting its Christmas tree business, including the types of trees it grows and tree care tips. Wagon rides around the farm will also be available for attendees. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Millennial Theatre Project will stage “Kinky Boots” on Sunday at the Knight Stage. The Tony-winning musical tells the story of Charlie Price, who enlists the help of a drag queen named Lola to save his family’s floundering shoe factory. Sunday’s show is at 2:30 p.m., and tickets are $20 to $25. Can’t make it Sunday? There are two more weekends of shows before “Kinky Boots” wraps on Sunday, Aug. 4.
