The holiday season is in full swing in Akron, and there’s no shortage of events to attend. We’re highlighting three that are sure to put you in the festive spirit.

Your Akron weekend plans

Get in the Christmas spirit with the Akron Symphony’s annual Holiday Pops concert Friday evening. Sing along to seasonal favorites and enjoy a visit from St. Nick himself. The festivities start at 7:30 p.m. at E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall. Tickets range from $20 to $60. Tickets for kids 18 and under are $15.

There’s something for the whole family at Saturday’s Winter Fest at the downtown Akron-Summit County Public Library. Visitors can play a life-sized game of Candy Land, make a seasonal craft, enjoy some sweet treats, get their faces painted. and decorate cookies. Be sure to catch the singing group the Firestone Madrigals as they carol throughout the library. The event goes from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

What’s better than a day at the movies? A free day at the movies. On Sunday, Wayside Furniture will host a holiday double feature at the Akron Civic Theatre. It kicks off at 2 p.m. with “Elf,” followed by “The Polar Express” at 6 p.m. The movies are free, but tickets are required. You can pick up tickets at the Akron Civic box office or at Wayside Furniture at 1367 Canton Rd. in Springfield Township.
