Here are some road construction updates from the Ohio Department of Transportation that affect the Akron area beginning today, along with some that start next week.

Main Street closure

From Friday, Feb. 16 at 9 p.m. until Saturday, Feb. 17 at 6 a.m. the ramps from Main Street heading north and south to I-76 eastbound will be closed.

The detour for those heading north on Main Street will be:

  • Main Street northbound to South Broadway Street
  • South Broadway Street to Selle Street
  • Selle Street to South High Street
  • South High Street to I-277/U.S. 224 eastbound
  • I-277/U.S. 224 eastbound to I-77 northbound and back onto I-76 eastbound
  • I-77 northbound and back onto I-76 eastbound

The detour for those heading north on Main Street will be:

  • Main Street southbound to I-277/US 224 eastbound
  • I-277/US 224 eastbound to I-77 northbound
  • I-77 northbound to I-76 east

Kenmore leg closed southbound

Beginning at Friday, Feb. 16 at 10 p.m., I-76 eastbound/I-77 southbound will be closed at the Kenmore leg through until Saturday, Feb. 17 at 6 a.m.

The detour will be:
I-76/Kenmore Leg south to I-277/U.S. 224 east to I-77 north to I-76 east.

Princeton Street closed Monday through Tuesday

Beginning Monday, Feb. 19 at 6 a.m., Princeton Street over I-76 will be closed through Tuesday at 4 p.m. for bridge repairs.

The detour for southbound traffic will be Russell Avenue to Lakeshore Boulevard, then West South Street to Princeton Street.

The detour for northbound traffic will be West South Street to Old Main Street to East Miller Avenue, then South Main Street to West Thornton Street to Princeton Street.

Additional closures on Feb. 22

Starting at 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, the ramps from Main Street heading north and south to I-76 eastbound will be closed through Friday at 6 a.m. 

The detour for those heading north on Main Street will be:

  • Main Street northbound to South Broadway Street
  • South Broadway Street to Selle Street
  • Selle Street to South High Street
  • South High Street to South Main Street southbound
  • South Main Street southbound to I-277/U.S. 224 eastbound
  • I-277/U.S. 224 eastbound to I-77 northbound and back onto I-76 eastbound
  • I-77 northbound and back onto I-76 eastbound

The detour for those heading north on Main Street will be:

  • Main Street southbound to I-277/US 224 eastbound
  • I-277/US 224 eastbound to I-77 northbound
  • I-77 northbound to I-76 east

Starting at 10 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, I-76 eastbound/I-77 southbound will be closed at the I-76/Kenmore leg through Friday at 6 a.m.

The detour will be I-76/Kenmore leg south to I-277/US 224 east to I-77 north to I-76 east.

Closures on Feb. 23

Beginning Friday, Feb. 23 at 10 p.m., I-76 westbound at state Route 8 will be closed until Saturday, Feb. 24, at 6 a.m.

The detour will be I-76 westbound to state Route 8 northbound to Carroll Street to state Route 8 southbound to I-76 westbound.
