The North Hill neighborhood welcomed Little Amal, a 12-foot puppet that has traveled more than 6,000 miles to 97 communities across 15 countries.

Little Amal depicts a 10-year-old Syrian refugee girl and is a human rights symbol that is intended to help bring attention to refugees around the world. Saturday’s two-hour event started at the intersection of North Main Street and East Tallmadge Avenue and ended at the North Hill Community Development Corp. after a half-mile parade up North Main Street.

People wrote their hopes and wishes on bricks that were then placed on a brick sidewalk at the CDC.

Community groups that brought Little Amal to Akron include: City of Akron, Gum-Dip Theatre, the National Center for Choreography at the University of Akron, Akron-Summit County Public Library: North Hill Branch, and North Hill CDC.
