Akron released its 2025 resurfacing list Tuesday — it includes 48 miles of roads across the city. The list includes 34 new miles of roadway and 14 miles of carryover roads from last year.
In addition to the $5.75 million resurfacing program, Ward 6 will see $2.15 million worth of concrete pavement rehabilitation.
“We’re already over halfway done with the carryover roads so we will be getting started with the 2025 list very soon,” Mayor Shammas Malik said in a press release. “Akron’s roadways are a high priority for many of our residents and while there’s plenty of work to do across the city, each year this program makes a huge difference.”
In creating the resurfacing list each year, city staff and engineers grade the condition of each street and pave the “worst first.” They also account for traffic conditions and cluster streets together to reduce costs and maximize efficiency.
Staff also consider upcoming construction projects such as lead line replacements, underground utility work or sewer projects, which may delay resurfacing for a road.
In 2017, voters approved a 0.25% income tax increase to support police, fire and roads. Since then, the city has gone from paving 16 miles per year to approximately 48 miles per year on average, according to the press release.
Most of Akron’s roadways are now graded as “fair” to “good.”

For the 2025 list, work on some of the streets with the worst grades was delayed from previous resurfacing programs due to lead line work.

- Damon Street from Evans Avenue to Tallmadge Avenue east.
- Eastwood Avenue from Brittain Road to Darrow Road.

What to watch for. And,what about potholes?
Signage will be posted on each street several days before resurfacing work is scheduled to begin. Traffic is maintained as much as possible during this work, but on-street parking is prohibited on the dates posted.
Periodic updates to the program will be posted on the city’s social media pages, including Facebook (City of Akron, Ohio – Mayor’s Office) and Instagram (instagram.com/akronmayormalik).
Additionally, crews are filling 200 to 300 potholes every day.
Residents can submit a service request to get a pothole filled or to request a road be considered for future resurfacing programs by calling 311, going online to akronohio.gov/311 or downloading the Akron311 app.
A crew member will be dispatched to check out a service request within 48 hours of receiving the request, according to the city. Once validated, it takes another 24 to 48 hours for the work to be completed.
The paving list and schedule are subject to change due to circumstances such as weather.
