Here are three things to do this weekend in Akron.
Your Akron weekend plans
Join Dorothy, Toto and the whole gang when “The Wizard of Oz” comes to E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall. Rubber City Theatre will perform the L. Frank Baum classic on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and again on Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $44.95 to $50.
Kayak, canoe or boat on Summit Lake — and enjoy a root beer float afterward — at Saturday’s Summit Lake Float. The event starts at 8 a.m. with canoe and kayak trips, followed by a kayak open house at 10 a.m. and pontoon rides beginning at noon. All activities are free, but those interested in a canoe or kayak trip must register by Friday. The open house and the pontoon rides are first come, first served. After you take to the lake, enjoy a root beer float back on land.
The Akron Symphony Orchestra will host its final free Summer Parks Concert of the season Sunday at Lock 3. Enjoy a night at the downtown park as the orchestra plays a mix of classical tunes and familiar favorites. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets and lawnchairs and to pack a picnic. Eddies Famous Cheesesteaks and Dreamsicle Ice Cream Truck will also be onsite for those who need a bite to eat or a sweet treat. The music begins at 7:30 p.m.
