East Akron residents looking to spruce up their homes without breaking the bank have the opportunity to make needed repairs through Habitat for Humanity of Summit County.
Funded by Summit County Public Health, volunteers at a two-day Neighborhood Reborn event will complete landscaping projects and critical home repairs in East Akron.
What will be fixed up?
Residents can apply to receive up to $2,000 in repairs, free of cost to them. Some of the critical home repair residents can apply for include:
- roof repair
- window replacement
- siding repair
- ramp installation
- chair lift installation
General landscape projects include weeding, lawn mowing and trash pickup, in addition to solar-powered security light installation.
Who can apply for the East Akron home repair event?
Eligible homeowners who live within the selected area can apply.
The eligible homes include:
- 1104 – 1190 Delos St.
- 1109 – 1173 Santee Ave.
- 1122 – 1147 Joy Ave.
- Chittenden Street
- Van Everett Avenue
Renters and homeowners can apply for the general landscape projects. Renters are not required to receive landlord permission for basic lawn care but do need permission for the security light installation.
Critical home repair applications for the East Akron home repair event should be submitted by the first week of April and landscape applications by the second week of April.
How long will the repairs take?
On May 3 and 4, the residents and volunteers, alongside Habitat staff and Summit County Public Health employees, will work together to complete all the tasks.
“We’re just looking toward community building,” said Jessica Goldbourn, the Neighborhood Network Manager for Northern Summit County.
The goal is to finish five critical home repairs and 10 landscape projects during the event, Goldbourn said.
