As we prepare to wrap up 2024, this will be the last edition of Akron Alive! for the year. I’ll be back in the new year with more local events and culture and arts stories to share. (A reminder that you can always send me tips and suggestions for coverage.)
Have a happy and safe rest of the year, and I’ll see you in 2025.
Your weekend plans

On Friday, join the Summit Choral Society for the first of three Christmas Candlelight Concerts at St. Bernard Church downtown. The long-running series features the Metropolitan Chorus and the Children’s Choir performing traditional holiday music and Mozart’s Coronation Mass. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the concert begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25-$35.

Don your best ’80s gear (leg warmers, anyone?) and get ready to run in Saturday’s Selfless Elf 5K. Now in its 12th year, the race benefits the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank. Participants can choose from one of two categories: run/walk or competitive walk. Those who register online by Friday will pay $44.95 including fees. Day of registration is $45 and begins at 6:30 a.m. The race starts at 8 a.m. for runners and walkers.

Choose from two Christmas classics — or see both — Sunday at the Nightlight. The downtown theater will show “The Muppet Christmas Carol” at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and “Die Hard” at 8:15 p.m. Tickets are $6-$11 for adults, $9 for seniors and $8 for students. Muppets tickets for children 12 and younger are $3.50.
