Earlier this month I visited the Cuyahoga Valley Farmers Market for the first time. Dozens of vendors were spread across Howe Meadow in the national park selling everything from honey and plants to fresh vegetables and kettle corn.
The Saturday market starts at 9 a.m., but as someone who has never been accused of being an early bird, I arrived at 11 a.m. and was happy to see there was still quite a bit to choose from. I left with fresh strawberries, asparagus and pickles as well as some delightfully funky pickle juice that I can drink straight from the bottle. (Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it.) Before leaving, I got a lavender latte from Bereka Coffee.

Kassi Filkins rounded up a guide to local farmers markets in the area. With summer just beginning, you’ve got plenty of time to check out a few of them this season.
Don’t forget: There’s still time to vote in Signal Akron’s inaugural “Best of the City” contest. Choose your favorites in 10 categories, including Best Pizza and Best Food Truck.
