June 24 Cuyahoga Falls Board of Education meeting

Covered by Documenters Mike Klein (see his notes here)

Six months after Cuyahoga Falls students started classes in a new high school, the district is hoping to auction off 624 items (or lots) from the old building. And you have until July 8 to put in your bid online.

A second online auction for items from the now-closed Roberts Middle School ends July 15 and features 137 items.

“The auctions provide an opportunity for residents, organizations, and businesses to purchase surplus items that are no longer needed following the district’s transition to the new 6-12 Campus,” according to a district press release.

Cuyahoga Falls voters approved an $80 million levy in 2019 for the construction of a campus for grades 6-12. Students started in the new building Jan. 5. A frozen boiler in February forced the permanent closure of the old high school building, which has sections dating back to the 1920s. The district has plans to sell both the former high school and Roberts Middle School buildings and property.

What is being auctioned?

Items up for bid range from cafeteria kitchen appliances to branded golf bags to gymnasium bleachers. Here’s a sample from the full list of items:

  • 80 folding tables, (current high bid: $5)
  • Stainless steel prep table (current high bid: $30)
  • Ceramic “CFS” branded plates and bowls (current high bid: $5)
  • Washing machine (current high bid: $35)
  • Black Tigers branded golf bag (current high bid: $10)

How does the auction work?

The online-only auction is open now and concludes at 6 p.m. on July 8. At that time, the auctioneers, JF Marketing Ltd. of Westlake, will begin to sell items in order shown on the auction site. They will then simulate a live auction event by allowing bids to continue to be placed in one-minute increments until no bids are received for three minutes after the last bid.

The auction features a countdown clock to show how much time is left to bid on the next item. Bidding can continue indefinitely.
