Mark Stewart, Stellantis’ chief operating officer in North America, will succeed retiring Goodyear CEO Richard Kramer effective Jan. 29.

Stewart, who led a business unit with more than 88,000 employees and more than $90 billion in revenue, was chosen by the Goodyear board following a search. “Goodyear is an iconic company with an unmatched brand, industry-leading innovation and significant opportunity for growth,” he said.

He headed Stellantis’ North America electric vehicle transformation process and introduced the first electrified Jeep in the U.S. market, which, according to a press release, remains the top-selling plug-in hybrid EV for the past three years.

Kramer announced his retirement in November after 24 years at Goodyear,  including 14 as chairman, CEO and president.

“It has been an honor and privilege to lead this great company during my 14 years as CEO,” he said in a press release. “I am proud of Goodyear’s progress and am forever grateful to our associates, our customers and our partners, without whom none of our achievements would have been possible.”

Laurette Koellner, the retired president of Boeing International who will become the new non-executive board chair, said, “Mark is a seasoned automotive executive and proven operator, with a track record of driving innovation and commercial excellence.”

Stewart “brings the perfect mix of international experience, history of successfully managing through business cycles and operational expertise, with a deep commitment to building strong, diverse and inclusive teams,” she said.

Stewart also worked as COO of ZF Group, where he oversaw $19 billion in revenue, and as vice president of TRW Automotive, where he oversaw operations in Belgium, France and Germany.

“I am honored and humbled to join Goodyear at such a pivotal time in its history,” Stewart said. ”Goodyear is an iconic company with an unmatched brand, industry-leading innovation and significant opportunity for growth.”

Stewart earned a bachelor’s in engineering degree from Vanderbilt University and an MBA from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.

Goodyear, a multinational tire manufacturer with about $20 billion in annual revenues, was founded in Akron in 1898. Its headquarters building is on Innovation Way just off of East Market Street in the East Akron neighborhood.
