GOGO Charters intended to begin operating a bus line this summer that would have connected Akron to much of the Midwest via Cleveland and Columbus — part of its interstate travel operation. Instead, it will be another year before the service begins.

While the Cleveland-to-Columbus route with a stop in Akron is still part of the plans, GOGO spokesperson Jon Schneider said the company is reconsidering many of the smaller cities the bus could connect to on the way to metropolitan destinations such as Chicago, Detroit and Indianapolis.

There has been a good deal of interest in Cleveland and Akron, Schneider said, but college towns that were initially on the list might not have enough activity to warrant being part of the route. Additionally, he said the process of setting up routes was more involved than the company expected.

“We went into it a little bit preemptively, thinking it was going to be a bit easier to pull off,” Schneider said of the initial GOGO Charters announcement.

“Admittedly, it’s a massive project.”

And now?

GOGO plans next fall to “bite off a smaller chunk” in the Midwest, Schneider said. He said the company plans to begin a Texas route during the first six months of 2026 — and learn things from that operation.

The cost of a ride between Cleveland and Akron is expected to be $10.
