Akron’s municipal offices will be closed on Monday, Dec. 25, in observance of Christmas Day and on Monday, Jan. 1, in observance of New Year’s Day.

There will be no trash/recycling service on Dec. 25 or Jan. 1, and there will be a one-day delay for the remainder of both weeks. Service will resume on Tuesday and continue through Saturday both weeks. The city has an app that will help on Google play or the Apple store

From Tuesday, Dec. 26, through Saturday, Dec. 30, Akron residents will be allowed to place extra trash alongside their trash carts on their normal collection day. You will be able to dispose of extra holiday items, including wrapping paper and gift boxes, that may not all fit in your cart. The city is encouraging residents to place cardboard and other recyclable materials in their recycling cart.

The city will also collect holiday trees left on the curb on the resident’s normal collection day. Summit Metro Parks also offers drop-off locations for live trees from Dec. 26 through Jan. 31. Be sure to clear off all decorations. The trees will be chipped into mulch and used to beautify Summit Metro Parks. Click here for drop-off locations.
