Through Jan. 27, Summit Lake Community Center will operate under extended hours for residents in need of shelter — in anticipation of single-digit temperatures through the end of the month.

The center (380 W. Crosier St.) will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. from Friday, Jan. 23 through Tuesday, Jan. 27.

Also, the Akron Emergency Overnight Warming Center (111 East Voris St.) remains open nightly through Jan. 30 (7 p.m. to 8 a.m.). The shelter also provides food and clothing. Learn more at akronemergencycenter.org. (Use METRO Bus #13 and #15 — the stop is located across from the Main Post Office on Wolf Ledges Parkway.)

The warming center is a community partnership between The Peter Maurin Center, Summit County Continuum of Care, and Community Support Services with partial funding provided by the City of Akron. The facility is also in need of volunteers, as well as donations of food, clothing and supplies.

A Winter Storm Watch will be in effect Saturday, Jan. 24 to Monday, Jan. 26, according to the National Weather Service.

To receive alerts about the city’s warming centers to your phone or email, sign up using CodeRED or text “AKRONOH” to 24639.
