Here are three things to do this weekend in Akron.
Your Akron weekend plans
Celebrate a great cause and have a fun Friday night at the Akron Zoo’s Summer Safari. This annual event is the zoo’s largest fundraiser and will benefit the animals, conservation efforts and education programs at the Akron Zoo. Guests can experience keeper-led trainings and up-close meet and greets with some of the zoo’s animals. There will be live performances from Joshua Swanzy, Michael Osborne, The DJ Crew and RW Magic. Heavy hors d’oeuvres from 15 local restaurants as well as an open bar will also be available. General admission tickets are $100, and the event goes from 7 to 10 p.m.
Enjoy two days of live performances and music workshops at EarthQuaker’s Eve and EarthQuaker Day. On Friday, swing by Musica for a free show from Haren and Thorla, Death by Drowning and ASTAROTHA featuring Lisa Bella Donna. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the music begins at 8 p.m. Then, on Saturday head to EarthQuaker Devices headquarters in downtown Akron for a packed day of music, clinics, pedal sales and shop tours — all free of charge. Doors open at 11 a.m. Stick around into the evening for the after party at Musica.
Kids will have a chance to hop in the driver’s seat at Summit Metro Parks’ Touch-a-Truck at Munroe Falls Metro Park on Saturday. Vehicles from Summit Metro Parks and local emergency services will be onsite for people to explore. An autism- and sensory-friendly hour will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. for those who prefer an experience free of horns, music and flashing lights. The free event will continue from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
