Signal Akron's Best of the City banner.

Blimps, devil strips, hamburgs and sauerkraut balls.

We’re setting out to discover what Akronites think makes Akron authentically Akron.

And we’re launching our inaugural “Best of the City” contest with something we all crave: Eats!

Help us showcase the many historic, trendy and undiscovered bars, breweries and restaurants tucked inside our city limits, along with the best burger joints, cafes and brunch spots.

Yum!

How to nominate: Use the form below to submit your favorite places to eat, drink and be merry in 10 categories. (Be sure your nominees are locally owned and also located within the city limits.)

We’ll collect the top contenders and open voting on May 23. We will announce the winners in June.

Nominations for Best of the City are now closed. Stay tuned for your chance to vote in each of our ten categories.

Editor-in-Chief (she/her)
Zake has deep roots in Northeast Ohio journalism. She was the managing editor for multimedia and special projects at the Akron Beacon Journal, where she began work as a staff photographer in 1986. Over a 20-year career, Zake worked in a variety of roles across departments that all help inform her current role as Signal Akron's editor in chief. Most recently, she was a journalism professor and student media adviser at Kent State University, where she worked with the next generation of journalists to understand public policy, environmental reporting, data and solutions reporting. Among her accomplishments was the launch of the Kent State NewsLab, an experiential and collaborative news commons that connects student reporters with outside professional partners.
