Akronites interested in working at Akron Public Schools can apply for jobs at an upcoming job fair.
On Friday, Aug. 30, APS will host a “talent fair” at the Sylvester Small Administration Building at 10 N. Main St. in downtown Akron from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The job fair is open to the public. Full- and part-time jobs are available. Registration is not required, and applicants are encouraged to bring their resume.
Larry Johnson, the district’s chief of Talent and Organizational Development, said applicants must be able to pass a background check.
“We are looking for talented, energetic and motivated people who are seeking to make a difference in our students’ life and desire to support the growth of every student,” Johnson said.
The job fair is part of an ongoing outreach effort to bring attention to the employment opportunities available at the district. District representatives for departments currently hiring will be present at the fair.

“There will be on-site interviews for support staff, interpreters, family liaisons, paraprofessionals — which are teacher assistants — and substitute teachers,” APS Superintendent Michael Robinson said Monday evening at a school board meeting.
The district is looking to fill the following positions:
- Office support staff
- Interpreters
- Family liaisons
- Paraprofessionals (teachers’ assistants)
- Substitute teachers
- Child nutrition assistants
- Bus assistants
- Elementary Learning Resource Center (Library) Technicians
It’s worth noting that the district recently changed its requirements for substitute teachers, who now must have a bachelor’s degree to be considered for the position. A valid teaching license or substitute teaching license for the State of Ohio is preferred.
“Anyone interested in our APS family and passionate about supporting our school community and being college-, career- and life-ready is encouraged to join us this Friday in the boardroom,” Johnson said.
