A staff member at Garfield Community Learning Center has been placed on administrative leave while Akron Public Schools investigates “inappropriate” social media videos that surfaced over the weekend.
In one of the videos, the staff member, who is wearing a football jersey, dances suggestively with a woman who appears to be much younger and wears braces. In another, the staff member is seen grinding on the woman while she holds up her hands in an attempt to hide his face.
“Don’t put me [online],” he can be heard saying in a video with the woman.
All the videos were originally streamed through an Instagram account and shared on other social media platforms. A second woman is visible in some of the shared images.
The ages of the women in the videos are unknown. It’s also not known if they are students in Akron Public Schools.
Signal Akron is not naming the staff member because charges have not been filed in the incident, according to the Akron Beacon Journal.
An APS spokesperson said in a statement the district took “immediate action” — the staff member was not in the building Monday.
“I am reaching out to inform you of a recent incident involving a staff member that has been brought to our attention through social media,” Garfield CLC Campus Principal Kathryn Rodocker wrote in an email Monday to parents. “The district is aware of the situation and immediate action has been taken to begin addressing it.”
The district notified the Akron Police Department, which is aware of the video.
