Look for 20 to 25 new jobs to be added at Alro Steel on Wyoga Lake Road in the near future.
At its March 24 meeting, Cuyahoga Falls City Council approved the company’s request to rezone adjacent property from a designation of rural neighborhood to employment district. The zoning change enables Alro to move forward with expansion plans that will nearly double its existing footprint.
The Wyoga Lake Road facility currently measures approximately 153,000 square feet and employs 80 to 90 people, Alro Steel Vice President of Administration John Rumier told the council during its March 17 meeting.
Under the proposed expansion, the facility will grow to 293,000 square feet and support 100 to 125 workers.
Alro Steel was founded in 1948 by brothers Al and Robert Glick, sons of Hungarian immigrant Louis Glick, who had started his own steel-related company in 1916 in Jackson, Michigan, according to the company’s website.
Today, Alro Steel is a metal supplier and processor with 80 locations across 16 states.
Appointments and financial updates from City Council
Council also approved Mayor Don Walters’ recommendation to appoint Ashley Brillhart, a real estate agent and Kent State University graduate, to fill a vacant seat on the Board of Zoning Appeals.
Brillhart is the daughter of Council Member Michael Brillhart, who has represented Ward 5 since 2015. Michael Brillhart abstained from the vote.
Council voted to approve the purchase of a parcel currently used by the city-owned Water Works Family Aquatic Center. The property, owned by the the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland, will be acquired for a cost not to exceed $83,000. The purchase will bring the entire Water Works property under city ownership.
In his financial report, Finance Director Brian Hoffman said street construction, maintenance and repair costs are up 30% over last year due to a harsher winter. The general fund is up 14% over 2024, and income tax withholdings have increased by 6.2%. Hoffman also reported growth in The Natatorium of Cuyahoga Falls and Water Works membership revenues over the previous year.
