About Akron Documenters

Akron Documenters trains and pays residents to document local government meetings with notes and audio. We then make those meeting summaries available as a new public record.

Akron Documenters’ meeting notes

Each week we create short and easy-to-read reports on local government meetings based on Documenters’ coverage so you can stay informed. By residents. For residents.

There is a need for increased coverage of local government in Akron, and the Documenters program will help make this information more accessible to the average Akronite. Being an Akron Documenter is a way that I can be more involved in my community. Plus, I really like taking notes at meetings!

A community of practice

We are building a community of Documenters and other civic-minded Akronites to learn more about our community together, to build our skills, and to connect. Come share what you’re seeing and hear what others have to say. All are welcome!

Akron has an amazing history that has been shared in many works. Akron Documenters is a great way to inform communities about what impacts them and to showcase the rich possibilities of Akron. In addition, it’s a way for me to expand the ways I tell the communities’ stories.

Local journalism — if anything saves this country, it will be local journalism… Local government, local schools, local is where it’s all happening.
